St. Peter’s is a member congregation of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) is a denomination that confesses the historic, orthodox Christian faith built on “the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone” (Eph. 2:20).
As such, we believe, teach, and confess the Holy Scriptures are the inerrant, inspired Word of God and therefore the only rule and norm for faith and life. We also affirm that the confessional documents found in the Book of Concord: The Confessions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church are the correct exposition of Scripture in that they are drawn from the Word of God and are authoritative for our work as ministers of Jesus Christ and servants in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. We believe, teach, and confess the one true God as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. He created the heavens and the earth and all that fills them. He created man and woman and placed them in the garden. They were tempted by the wicked serpent to rebel against God and fell into sin. As a response, God expelled them from the garden and they were condemned to die. God promised Eve that He would raise up an offspring from her. He would come one who would crush the serpent and set creation free. This promised deliverer has come in the person of Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, fully God and fully Man, who inaugurated the new creation when He suffered, died, was buried, three days later rose from the grave, and ascended to the right hand of the Father. After He ascended He sent His Spirit on the day of Pentecost to be the promise and seal of our faith. The Spirit continues to work in the world by calling, gathering, and sanctifying the whole Christian Church on earth and keeping it until Christ comes again. On the day of the Lord’s return, Christ will finally complete the fulfillment of the promise by making all things new. All will be raised from the dead on the Last Day, and those who have been found in Christ will raise to everlasting life and those who have been found apart from Him to eternal death.
